Luis Pablo: Masterpiece Chameleons
Luis Pablo's exceptional skill evokes admiration, making complex work appear effortless and inspiring appreciation in art enthusiasts and collectors alike.
The composition, carved from one uninterrupted piece of wood, tells a story of cultural significance. The mother's protective arch and her shifting expression reflect Luis Pablo's skill in conveying emotion, making the technical achievement and cultural symbolism more compelling.
The painting matches the emotion.
The mother moves through a full spectrum, amber yellow on the head with white polka dots, through orange and red on the body, to chartreuse on the tail. Her feet are green with white stripe markings. Her eyes are large, bulging, teal and turquoise with a gold iris, painted with the anatomical precision of a real chameleon whose eyes move independently. The baby below answers in cool tones, cobalt blue covered in white dots with flashes of hot pink across the back. Two different palettes, one conversation between them.
The chameleon is one of the twenty animals in the Zapotec toná calendar, serving as a spirit guardian assigned at birth. This animal is known for its ability to change colors, see in two directions simultaneously, and move with complete patience. It is a fitting symbol for a mother who watches over her young.
Luis Pablo's candle is painted on the base, marking his presence with light, as always.
