This wonderfully animated cat by Luis Pablo looks as though it has just spotted something interesting and is ready to pounce. The rounded back, lowered front legs, wide green eyes, and extraordinary tail curling high above the body give the carving a wonderful sense of movement. The tail is almost a sculpture of its own, twisting upward in a loose spiral and ending in a crisp white tip.
Luis Pablo keeps the painting bold and beautifully simple. Sweeping black and golden-yellow stripes travel across a brilliant orange body, following the curves of the carving and exaggerating the cat's arched pose.
The coloring suggests an orange tabby cat. Luis Pablo has taken that familiar cat and pushed its posture and curling tail just far enough into fantasy, creating a playful, instantly recognizable Oaxacan wood carving with tremendous character.
