This wonderful Day of the Dead olla was created by Javier and Gaby Martinez. It is their version of how Mata Ortiz's graveyard looks in the morning, during the Day of the Dead Celebrations. The etched skeletons and tombs are dedicated to some of the top Mata Ortiz potters that have passed away such as Felix Ortiz, Chevo Ortiz, and Nicolas Quezada. As you can see, it is a festive portrayal of one of Mexico's most important celebrations, there are musicians and dancing, beautiful birds, and even a skeleton horse!
