Armando Jimenez: Baby Fox Woodcarving
Armando Jimenez: Baby Fox Woodcarving
Armando Jimenez is the grandson of Don Manuel Jiménez Ramírez, the founder of the Oaxacan alebrije tradition. He carves in San Antonio Arrazola, the cradle village where it all began.
This baby fox is one of those pieces that simply makes you smile. Small, curled in on itself, tail wrapped to the side, ears long and alert. The head turns to look right at you with an expression that is half curious, half just waiting to see what happens next.
The painting is classic Jimenez family work. Deep teal blue body covered in fine mint green drops, fine white whiskers, a soft yellow muzzle. The ears are the showpiece: vivid violet linings with pink centers, painted with radiating fine lines that pull your eye straight to the face.
The piece carries the slightly rustic finish that Arrazola work is known for.
A small, joyful piece from the family who started the tradition.
