A wonderful bashful bull by artist Lucero Fuentes, daughter of master carver Epifanio Fuentes. The pose is full of energy: head down, horns lifted, the whole body coiled and ready. A long tail curves upward behind, ribboning through the full rainbow from red at the root to green at the tip, giving the piece a festive spring that lightens all that ground-level power.
The painting is pure pleasure. The front half carries stacked horizontal bands in every warm color, each filled with its own pattern: zigzags, diamonds, chevrons, stepped hearts. The haunches shift to a cool turquoise field of interlocking pinwheels, clean and architectural. The two halves couldn’t be more different and couldn’t work better together.
