Armando Jimenez: Big-eared mouse alebrije
Armando Jimenez: Big-eared mouse alebrije
Those magnificent ears give this mouse by Armando Jimenez an unmistakable silhouette. Its bright green body is covered in yellow dots, while the inner ears carry elongated shapes in turquoise and pink, framed by deep purple and fine white strokes. A pink muzzle and painted white whiskers bring its face into focus.
A long purple-and-white striped tail curls upward behind the ears, extending the lively shape of this hand-carved copal wood alebrije. At 8.5 inches tall, it has a more substantial presence than its compact body might suggest. Armando is the grandson of Don Manuel Jimenez, a pioneer of Oaxacan wood carving, and continues the family's tradition of expressive animal figures.
