Milagros: Our Lady of Guadalupe Sculpture Woodcarved

This charming rustic sculpture depicts Our Lady of Guadalupe, the beloved patroness of Mexico and the Americas. Hand-carved from wood in Michoacán, Mexico, this folk art figure captures the Virgin's serene expression and traditional pose with her hands joined in prayer.

Her iconic cloak, painted in rich green and gold, is decorated with dozens of milagros, tiny silver-toned metal charms shaped like stars, birds, hearts, ears of corn, and other sacred symbols. These devotional charms represent prayers for healing, protection, fertility, and gratitude, making the sculpture not just decorative but spiritually meaningful.

At her feet is a small angel holding her aloft, mirroring the traditional Guadalupe image seen on Juan Diego’s tilma. Milagros are charms traditionally used to thank a Saint or the Virgin Mary for a prayer or miracle answered. The person whose prayer has been answered will usually visit the church where the Saint’s figure is to give thanks for the favor received. Milagros are often attached to the statues of saints or altars.
