Eduardo Jimenez: Whale
Eduardo Jimenez: Whale
Eduardo Jimenez comes from Arrazola, the village made famous by Don Manuel Jimenez, widely regarded as the father of Oaxacan woodcarving, and that legacy of bold, joyful simplicity runs right through this delightful little whale.
The form is round and wonderfully compact, the tail curling upward in a gentle loop. Eduardo has painted the body in a rich grape purple covered in softer lavender ovals, a subtle, beautiful pattern that gives the surface a lively, spotted energy. The fins and tail are teal and sky blue, striped cleanly, and a bright orange accent traces the jaw line like a smile. The eye is yellow and alert, outlined in white, peering at the world with cheerful curiosity.
This is a piece full of personality and warmth — unpretentious, joyful, and impossible not to love.
