Cristo Escamilla: Wire Frog Wire Art
Cristo Escamilla: Wire Frog Wire Art
Cristo Escamilla's adorable frog has found its spot and has no plans to move.
The ranita, frog, holds the classic resting posture of a tree frog, caught mid-pause, alert, unhurried, completely at home on any surface it lands on. The pose is so right that it takes a moment to register that it's a wire figure!
The body is built in green-painted copper magnet wire, dense and tightly looped, with copper threading through the mesh and catching warmly at the joints and spine. Cristo uses simple tools for his creations: pliers, nail cutters, and scissors!
Two glass eyes sit wide and forward on the head, just as they should on an animal that needs to see in nearly every direction at once.
From above, the long hind legs spread in perfect bilateral symmetry, each toe individually resolved in twisted wire. From the front, the frog looks directly back at you with an expression of total composure.
