Cristo Escamilla: Dog Wire Art

This is a remarkably expressive little sculpture by Cristo Escamilla — a lean, elegant sighthound (think greyhound or galgo) rendered entirely in fine magnet copper wire. The piece captures the dog alert and upright, its long neck stretched forward, mouth slightly open, and completely at ease.

The technique is what makes this so special. Cristo works with very fine copper wire, building up volume by looping and coiling it back on itself repeatedly, almost like a three-dimensional doodle that becomes fur. The body has a denser, more tightly woven texture, while the legs taper into twisted wire strands. The effect isn't stiff at all; it's surprisingly soft-looking, warm in color, and full of movement. You can see the individual loops tumbling over each other like a tangled coat of curls.

The whole dog fits in the palm of your hand, which makes the anatomical accuracy, the deep chest, the tucked belly, and the impossibly fine legs even more impressive.
