Avelino Perez: Punk Cockatoo Alebrije

This cockatoo is ready to steal the show! Created by Avelino Perez from La Union Tejalapan, a small village in Oaxaca known for preserving one of the oldest and most rustic traditions of woodcarving. Unlike the highly detailed styles of Arrazola or Tilcajete, La Union pieces are usually simpler, painted with bold strokes and natural dyes, and often focus more on the figure's shape and character than on intricate decoration.

That rustic charm shines here; the cockatoo’s soft blue body, striped wings, and bright, feathered crest give it a lively personality. Shaking its maracas like every day is an Oaxacan parade!
