Handsome black on black bison effigy by Mata Ortiz artist Tomas Quintana. Tomas lives down the road to Mata Ortiz and for many years had been an admirer of the work of the potters. On his own he developed a unique style of creating effigies. He has won numerous awards for his figures including the yearly Concurso de Ceramica de Mata Ortiz. This wonderful sculpture is one of the first Tomas has made with the black on black graphite technique. It is beautiful!!
