Spectacular prowling panther by Oaxaca woodcarving artist Nicolas Morales. The figure is carved to perfection. The body of the panther is so well carved and distinct from the boulder it is coming down from so much so that you can sense the intense focus of the feline! The painting is superb, featuring ancient Zapotec codex symbols such as serpents, herons, suns, a warrior... The fiery color hues represent the re-birth of the sun which took place in pre-Columbian cultures every 52 years. This is certainly a very special and meaningful museum quality piece!.
