Absolutely superb,large fierce jaguar by top Oaxaca artist Manuel Cruz. This figure is spectacularly carved; you can see the strength of the jaguar, its muscles, you can sense it's fierceness and the vigilance, the protection of its territory. Its face is so expressive, you can almost hear the jaguar's deep roar. Take a look at the curving tail. The painting by Manuel's wife Ruvi is magnificent. She created an intricate design, with flowing fretwork lines that emphasize the shape of the jaguar. It features the classic Cruz Zapotec complex designs with stylized jaguars, that contrast with the contemporary geometric patterns. All well integrated and harmonious. Unquestionably a majestic sculpture!
