This is a powerful wood sculpture of a griffin on the move by Oaxacan artist Eleazar Morales. This gorgeous alebrije figure is so graceful and elegant. Griiffins are symbolic of power, wealth, courage, and prestige. Eleazar is one of the most versatile carvers in Oaxaca, creating a wide variety of figures, from Santos and fantastic dragons to wildlife animals. The wood used is called copal which is a soft aromatic wood local to Oaxaca.
