Bertha Cruz: Fretwork Buffalo

Handsome fretwork buffalo by artist Bertha Cruz. Bertha has a distinct painting style like no other artist in Oaxaca. She incorporates ancient codex and fretwork into her designs, often using pointillism as well. She is one of the most successful woman woodcarvers in Oaxaca today. This beautiful bufallo is very nicely painted! It has a variety of pre-Columbian fretwork, kiva-steps, as well as a codex eagle, butterflies, and snails. The red flower-like design resembles traditional Oaxacan embroidery.
