Eleazar Morales: Nautilus Woodcarving
Eleazar Morales: Nautilus Woodcarving
This wonderful nautilus by Eleazar Morales feels like a visitor from a very colorful ocean. The rounded shell is painted in deep turquoise and bright blue, with flowing lines that suggest currents moving gently around it.
The tentacles are full of movement. They fan outward in yellow and orange, speckled and tipped in dark red and black, recalling both the grace and strength of real cephalopods.
In nature, the nautilus is an ancient relative of the octopus and squid, carrying its spiral shell as it moves through the ocean. Here, within the Oaxacan woodcarving tradition, Eleazar reimagines it as a luminous guardian of the sea—part real animal, part dream.
