Javier Martinez and his wife Gaby created this impressive Day of the Dead-themed olla. It is a night view of Mata Ortiz's graveyard. The etched skeletons and tombs are dedicated to some of the top Mata Ortiz potters that have passed away such as Nicolas Quezada, Felix Ortiz, Chevo Ortiz as well as Spencer MacCallum, one of the most influential promoters of Mata Ortiz pottery. There are birds, squirrels a rabbit on the moon, flowers, and trees. As you can see, it is a festive portrayal of one of Mexico's most significant celebrations, The Day of the Dead.
